NOTIFICATION OF RECALL OF R4140L BURNER CONTROL PROGRAMMERS
On March 7, 1997 we sent out a letter concerning the recall of R4140L Programmers with manufacturing date codes of 9401 through 9644. We are sending this letter as a follow up to solicit your continued assistance in finding and replacing the recalled R4140L Programmers.
The following is the text from the original letter explaining the recall in more detail: Honeywell has determined that R4140L Programmers with date codes of 9401 through 9644 may have a manufacturing defect which can cause a safety issue. The M2 cam follower blade can break, resulting in closure of the timer contacts energizing the main fuel valve out of sequence. This could result in an explosion.
Therefore, Honeywell is notifying customers of the recall of R4140L Programmers with date codes 9401 through 9644. The cause of the defect has been identified and corrective action has been taken. It is emphasized that the recall is limited to R4140L Programmers with date codes of 9401 through 9644. This includes controls in inventory and those that have been installed. The date code in visible in the top of the control (under the device cover, if applicable).
Please return these controls to Honeywell. You may return either controls either prepaid or collect. We will only accept collect return for controls with the recall
date codes. Mark the return “R4140L Product Recall” and ship to:
1050 BERKSHIRE LANE
PLYMOUTH, MN 55441
You may order replacement controls at no charge from you Customer Logistics Representative. Since R4140L technology has been updated, we would like to
provide the option for you to choose newer technology. Therefore you have three options for replacement:
2) BC7000L and PM720L
3) RM7840L, Q7800, ST7800A, and either a R7847 or R7848 or R7849 amplifier
When placing the order with your customer logistics representative, please make sure to tell them that this is related to the R4140L Product Recall and indicate which replacement control you select.
Honeywell will pay reasonable labor charges for replacement of installed controls with the above date codes.
We have notified the Consumer Product Safety Commission as required by Section 15 of the Consumer Product Safety Act of 1972. There is no need for further
notification on your part.
The original letter included detailed information of the R4140L’s purchased during that period. If you need an additional copy of this report, please contact Melissa Schultz at 612-954-6831.
In the next couple of months we will be working with each of you on an individual basis to determine the status of the R4140L Product Recall.
All requests for labor reimbursement should be directed to:
